Intervention & Support

At Aldinga Beach Primary School we see all students as individuals. We carefully track and monitor each student throughout their schooling and have processes, programs and support in place to tailor to the individual student’s needs both inside and outside the classroom.

We have a range of intervention programs to further support students in their Literacy, Numeracy and Social Skills. Student Support Officers (SSOs) are trained to deliver these programs to small groups of students.

PASM Intervention (Receptions)

Phonological Awareness refers to the ability to detect and analyse the sound structure of spoken language. Reception students identified as requiring support with phonological awareness will be supported by the SSOs who work in the Reception Classrooms.

MiniLit Sage and MacqLit

Both of these programs provide a comprehensive sequence of lessons that includes all the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Speech Programs

Students who have been identified as requiring individualised Speech programs by the DfE Speech Pathologist work with a SSO three times per week. The speech programs are regularly reviewed and updated by the Speech Pathologist.

Skill Narrative

SKILL Narrative is a small group intervention designed to help improve children’s oral language skills by teaching them a way to remember key information presented in stories. Students (Year 2-4) are identified for this intervention by the DfE Speech Pathologist. SKILL is delivered by a trained SSO. Students participate in this intervention two times per week.

Quicksmart

These programs aim to close the gap for students in their Maths knowledge and fluency (how quick they can recall and use the information). The program is delivered by trained SSOs. Students work in groups of up to four with the SSO, three times per week.

Zones of Regulation

Known as ‘The Zones’, this curriculum is about self-regulation. Participating in this intervention group will provide the opportunity for students to further understand their feelings/emotions and what strategies to use when they occur. The Zones intervention groups (up to four students) meet two times per week with a SSO. This intervention is to complement the Zones curriculum that is taught in all classes.
